I would like to thank Dr Musa Mohd Nordin, president of the Islamic Medical Association, for his elaborate explanation about jailed ex-deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim's condition as well as for revealing how he feels about the whole situation ([#1] An open letter to Dr Mahathir Mohamad [/#], April 2).

Few Malaysians truly know what is wrong with Anwar and the open letter has surely enlightened some of us, though I must admit to having to pick up a medical dictionary to see the picture clearly.

Most of the time, political decisions are made by the ruling elite to either ensure that they stay in power or to discard their political rival. In this particular case, it is obvious from the start that Mahathir doesn't care about the public opinion about his actions against Anwar, and it is obvious that he really wants to make sure that Anwar will be far from alive, especially with regard to his political future.

It may sound harsh and ugly, but I think Mahathir will never let Anwar get his rightful treatment.

However, although I commend Musa's effort in writing his open letter to Mahathir, ultimately, I think it won't do Anwar or, in the bigger picture, the country any good, beyond maybe eliciting some sympathy from the readers (not Mahathir, surely), life goes on as always.
