Born In The Eighties suggested in his/her letter [#1] We reap what we sow [/#] (April 4) that we (all Malaysians) put Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in power and have done nothing to change it; I cannot agree with the writer.

As far as I know, only two groups of people put him in power, and they are Umno and the voters in Kubang Pasu; the rest of the of the people have nothing to do with it.

We do not hold direct elections for the post of prime minister: Mahathir became prime minister because he's the head of Umno and elected member of Parliament of Kubang Pasu. Now somebody please tell me how many voters are there in Kubang Pasu?

How can we (all Malaysians) change this? I am not talking of denying Barisan Nasional the majority seats, but simply getting rid of Mahathir (or any PM at that). The fact is that you can't without denying them the majority, and it would not be fair to vote your BN MPs out of their office simply because you don't like their head.

Again, I think we need to change the system, we should hold direct election for the post of prime minister, and the elected PM can appoint his cabinet; MPs should stay as just MPs, not members of the executive as well; and all senators must be elected and they too shouldn't be allowed executive posts.
