Petty politics and Petrioks in the Bar
I think lawyer DP Vijandran's remarks in open court that his client's suits against the Bar were inspired by bad relations between the Judiciary and Bar, are highly offensive ([#1] Lawyer seeks to discontinue suit against Bar [/#], April 20).
Mah Weng Kwai as Bar chief should do something about both lawyer and client. Their conduct is totally unbecoming of a member of the legal profession.
The proposed resolutions were informed by a real concern of the independence of the judiciary as an institution which lawyers are duty bound to uphold. The issues raised in the resolutions are matters of great public interest.
I am amused to know that several senior lawyers had meekly scuttled to the said judge reporting the views of members of the Bar of the judge in question, instead of "disassociating" themselves with these remarks at the AGM itself. What cowards! The Malay word I believe is tali barut . They are Petrioks (the clown-Judas in the Ramayama series).
