I would like to clarify the differences between what EW said ('The good son', April 28) and what J Allen Otten said ('Sacrificial son was Isaac, not Joseph', April 30) on whether Abraham sacrificed his son Isaac or his other son Joseph.

This is a common problem encountered when Muslims and Christians speak. One point of similarity is that both agree that Nabi Ibrahim (or Abraham in the Bible) had two sons, Yusof (or Joseph) and Ishak (or Isaac). The difference is that in Islam, the Quran says that Nabi Ibrahim (or Abraham) sacrificed his son Yusof (Joseph). Whereas the Bible says that Abraham sacrificed his son Isaac. I am sure from EW's statement that he must be Muslim.

My point is that both EW and Mr Otten are right, depending on their religious backgrounds.
