It seems to be that it is another sad day for the rakyat . Listening to the speeches by Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Hishammuddin Hussein during the Umno annual general assembly, I can really understand the Malay community's frustration with the so-called leading party of the country.

Analyse the duo's speeches carefully and we can see that instead of focusing on the real problems faced by the Malay community, both Umno president and Umno Youth president brought up non-relevant issues despite it being such an important meeting.

In the eyes of the public, there is no doubt that the Malay community is lagging behind other communities in terms of academic and economic achievement. Ask any Tom, Dick and Harry on the street and you will know what the Malay community really needs.

Instead of encouraging the Malay community, especially the youth, to participate fully in the field of business and economy without depending on the affirmative action provided by the government, all Hishammuddin can do is encourage more Malays to join Umno Youth as well as Umno.

Why is so important for the Malay community to join Umno? Is joining Umno going to bring prosperity to the Malays? Is the competency of the Malay community in all areas be improved drastically just by joining Umno?

Although our country achieved independence four decades ago, our leaders obviously have not. Instead of blaming other people for our weak economy, why can't our ruling leaders find ways to restructure the country's economy?

I do not see countries like Singapore blaming other people or countries during its economic recession. Instead of harping on slogans such as ' Hidup Melayu! ' during the Umno general assembly, why not encourage the Malay community to further equip themselves with higher education and competency to survive in the era of globalisation?

I think there is already too much emphasis on politics in our country. Every sector, including the judiciary system, police and economy, is filled politics. I think each body should be allowed its own independence from the interference of political bodies. Judges should be given their own right to conduct hearings without fear.

Police should be empowered to exercise their powers within the limits of the law. The country's economy should be allowed to grow under the logical economic laws.

If the business activities are fully dominated by politics, why do we need the help from experts on economy? We should just introduce various political courses in our universities so that people will invest in economics based on their understanding of Malaysia's political scenario. Pathetic, isn't it? But still so true.

In the education field, since no one pays attention to the promises or decisions from the education ministry (as all the critical and major decisions are being made by the PM himself), why do we need an education ministry anyway? To me, it is just another way to waste the public's money.

If our country does not make an effort to emphasise on the concept of meritocracy in various fields, what is the point of asking our younger generations to achieve better academic results?

As a matter of fact, all my friends prefer to work everywhere but Malaysia upon their graduation from local and private universities; their reason? No point working in a place where skills and knowledge are not appreciated.

I have a humble suggestion to all those so-called leaders of the country. Please go and find out what the rakyat really needs, and not what you need to run the country. Instead of various efforts to make your political parties more irrelevant to the rakyat , why not focus on various problems and issues that are really affecting the lives of various communities in the country?
