Sabah Progressive Party (Sapp), a former component party of the Barisan Nasional in Sabah, has continued the tradition of strengthening racial unity and harmony by observing the Kadazandusun annual festival Pesta Kaamatan throughout the state.

yong teck lee sabah sapp party pc 230409 02 Party president and former chief minister Yong Teck Lee in a statement to Malaysiakini today said that the festival is recognised as a public event that can strengthen harmony and peace among the various races in Sabah.

“As a party that caters to various communities irrespective of race and religion, Sapp does not forget the importance of its celebration in Sabah,” he added.

“The people of Malaysia from all communities who live in Sabah are jointly celebrating Pesta Kaamatan,” he said, adding that the peace and harmony achieved is indicative of the people of various races respecting one another’s traditions and customs.”

The former chief minister was addressing a Pesta Kaamatan celebration at Kampung Bunsut, Telipok near Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

Sapp's struggle accepted by people

Also present were Sapp deputy president and Sepanggar MP Eric Majimbun, vice president Don Chin, information chief Chong Pit Fah, women’s chief and state assemblyperson for Luyang Melani Chia and local party leaders.

Sapp has never failed to celebrate the festival since its inception in 1994.

Yong said the presence of hundreds of people from Telipok showed the party’s struggle is accepted by the people throughout Sabah.

The party will continue to struggle for the people irrespective of race and religion as it has been accepted by the people in the state, he added.
