The police force was given up to RM9.2 billion from 2005 to 2007 with the highest allocation going for management and logistics.

In a written reply to Seputeh DAP parliamentarian Teresa Kok's question on the funds channelled to the police force for the three consecutive years, the Home Minister revealed that a total of RM3.5 billion was spent on management and RM2.04 billion was spent on logistics.

The breakdown of the allocation for other department were RM569 million for the criminal crime investigation department, RM526 million for special branch, RM220 million for narcotics, RM2.3 billion for security and order and RM77 million for commercial crime and investigation department.

Kok had also enquired on the plan to reduce the crime rate in the country and the minister had listed short term and long term plans.

Among the short term plans listed were to identify 'hotspots', to increase patrol units and special operations such as 'Ops Lalang' which was used to nab errant motorists.

The minister had also said that there were plans to install close circuit televisions (CCTV) and street lights in crime prone areas.

The long term plans are to increase recruitment to 60,000, to add on the number of police stations in urban areas, to develop the Central Intelligence Unit (CIP) project and to upgrade the communication system.
