Four wild-boar heads were thrown early this morning into the compound of two mosques along Jalan Klang Lama, a major road in the southwest of Kuala Lumpur.

NONE The heads were found in the compound of Masjid Taman Dato Harun and Masjid Taman Seri Sentosa, both in Petaling Jaya and about 3km apart.

Two severed heads were seen lying inside the main gate of Masjid Jumburiyah in Taman Dato Harun and another two heads near the parking area of Masjid Al-Iman Al-Tirmizi in Taman Seri Sentosa.

NONE Petaling Jaya Selatan member of parliament Hee Loy Sian, who was at Masjid Jumhuriyah, said the two heads were found wrapped in plastic bags before morning prayers about 5.30 this morning.

"It could have happened at around 5am. A police report was lodged around 6am," said Hee when contacted this morning.

He added that about 30 RM1 banknotes were found strewn around the mosque compound.

Imam: Muslims could be behind the attacks

Inspector-general of police (IGP) Musa Hassan, police officers and a forensic team were at both mosques this morning to investigate the matter.

NONE By looking at the modus operandi of the (pigs' head) incidents... I think it is the same group that is involved in the previous attacks," Musa told reporters.

"I think they are throwing money (to those carrying out the attacks) to cause such incidents," he said, warning those responsible not to "play with fire" and undermine national security.

Zulkifli Mohamad, the imam who leads prayers at the Al-Imam Al-Tirmizi mosque, called for calm and said Muslim saboteurs could be behind the latest incidents.

NONE "This is the work of some people to stir racial tension in the country. We are shocked by their actions," he told reporters.

"I want the police to act fast, we ask Muslims to be patient, there is a possibility Muslims could be behind this incident."

Nurul outraged

Lembah Pantai member of parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar, who visited Masjid Al-Imam Al-Tirmizi, called for a royal commission to probe the many cases of attacks on places of worship.

NONE "We are outraged by these attacks, it could be the act of saboteurs to destroy peace and racial harmony," she said at the scene.

"This area is a predominantly mixed area. On the ground, race relations are fine."

Businessman Sharif Shaari, 57, a resident living nearby, said that he found a plastic bag with two wild-boar heads at the mosque's carpark this morning.

He added that RM1, RM5 and RM10 notes, amounting to RM35, were scattered nearby.

NONE The IGP, in a press conference at the Masjid Al-Iman Al-Tirmizi, urged the public to remain calm and to contact the police if they have any information about two attacks.

He reminded the people not to take the law into their own hands.

Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said police are working closely with local mosque and neighborhood committees to try and keep residents calm.

"I am warning people not to try and influence the situation and don't try to take advantage to raise the anger of any ethnic group," he told Reuters .

Series of attacks

The two mosques are located near Kampung Medan, which in 2001 was hit by an ethnic clash that reportedly left six people dead.

azlan This is the latest in a string of desecrations of places of worship across the country over the past three weeks involving 11 churches, a Sikh temple, one mosque and two surau.

The attacks were triggered by the High Court's Dec 31, 2009 decision to lift a government ban on non-Muslims using the term 'Allah' as a translation for 'God'.

The ruling in favour of Catholic newspaper Herald , which argued for the right to use 'Allah' in its Malay-language section, was suspended last week pending an appeal after the government argued that 'Allah' was exclusive to Malay Muslims.

Previous incidents

This is not the first time pig’s heads have been found in mosques or surau.

Exactly a year ago, a pig’s head, sliced into two, was found on top of a PAS flag on the floor of the Universiti Malaya surau .

A month before that incident, a wild-boar head was found hanging next to a banner advertising an event organised by anti-pig farming group Majlis Permuafakatan Ummah (Pewaris) in Malacca.

The banner, which was hung on the fence of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan Balak, highlighted issues concerning the Malay community, including a pig farm in nearby Paya Menkuang.

Pig breeders in the area denied any involvement in the incident.
