Errant PKR parliamentarian Zulkifli Noordin has been accused of 'fleeing' to South Korea to avoid facing the party's disciplinary board, which is set to meet today.

PKR deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali  said today that Zulkifli has been constantly giving excuses and putting his personal affairs above party matters.

"Zulkifli went to South Korea on his personal arrangement and he was not sent by the party. The party had no knowledge of his trip.

He never informed the disciplinary board about it. He also never suggested an alternative date for the hearing," he said.

This appears to be Zulkifli's normal ploy. In a previous case he also gave the excuse that he was away from Kuala Lumpur, presumably to avoid a meeting with the disciplinary committee on the date fixed, he added.

"Zulkifli has decided to give priority to his personal programme in South Korea over attending the hearing by the disciplinary board and to defend himself. He should not blame anybody," he said in a press statement today.

"He was requested to reply before Feb 12 and to indicate before Feb 15 his choice of date (either Feb 18 or 23) when he could meet the Board (but we) did not receive any reply from Zulkifli," he said.

At a press conference on Feb 16, however, the troubled MP claimed that he only received the letter on that day.

Zulkifli also issued a statement to Secretary General Saifuddin Naustion on Feb 16 requesting that the board reschedule the meeting to either Feb 28 or any other day between March 1 and 5.

He also insisted that PKR knew that he will be away in South Korea for a leadership conference from Feb 17 to 25.

 Whatever his reasons, Zulkifli's absence will not halt any disciplinary action.

Both Syed Husin and disciplinary subcommittee member Animah Ferrer confirmed that the board will meet this evening to decide on whether he will be sacked, suspended or warned.
