Former Tanah Merah Umno division secretary Amran Abdul Rahman has been sacked from the party for taking party matters to the court, the division's secretary Ahmad Ismail said.

He said the move was taken following a suit filed by Amran against the division chief Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz and deputy division secretary Baharuddin Yusof.

Ahmad told Bernama that the division received a letter from Umno headquarters signed by the party's secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor informing the division of the action against Amran.

Amran, 46, filed the suit on Feb 17 at the Kota Bharu High Court claiming that their victories in the 2008 party elections were doubtful.

In the elections, Ikmal Hisham won unopposed after securing nomination from 92 out of 108 branches while Baharuddin defeated incumbent Saari Hassan.
