The Shah Alam Syariah High Court here today fined an assistant producer of a private television station RM2,000 and ordered him to be jailed three months after finding him guilty of attempted illicit sex.

Syarie Abu Bakar Mohd Daud handed down the sentence on Roslan Abdul Rahman, 44, who was caught committing the offence at 4.51am on Aug 11, 2009 at a house in Pelangi Utama in Petaling Jaya.

His partner, Siti Nor Ain Ahmad Patakon, 23, a former broadcast journalist also of TV9, was fined RM1,500 and ordered to be held at the Baitul Ehsan women's home in Sabak Bernam for three months in lieu of jail.

The judge also ordered the duo to serve a month's jail if they defaulted on the fines.

Under Section 26 of the Selangor Syariah Crimes Enactment 1995, the offence of attempted illicit sex by Muslims carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or jail up to three years or six strokes of the rotan or any combination of the three penalties, if convicted.

When caught by religious enforcement officers, the two of them were in an unlit room with the man not wearing any clothes while his partner was only covered in a blanket.
