MCA Youth and Women's wing leaders - Wee Ka Siong and Chew Mei Fun - today stormed out of the party caretaker central committee, over its interference with decisions made by the wings.

NONE The duo had attended the meeting to discuss the election of a coordinator for fresh polls to decide on a new central committee but found out the central committee resolved to hold polls on March 28, not just for the MCA central body but also for both the wings.

Wee said the committee decided to go ahead with the MCA Youth and Wanita AGMs both slated for tomorrow.

NONE Earlier today, Wee and Chew had announced that their respective wings' AGMs for tomorrow had been postponed.

Speaking at a press conference, Wee said that there was an attempt to interfere with the Youth wing.

He said the central committee had no right to make any decision as it only comprised one-third of the original committee and therefore only had caretaker duties.

Later this evening, both wings held emergency central committee meetings to reaffirm their morning decision of the executive committee.

Joint dinner tonight

Earlier, secretary-general Wong Foon Meng said the party must hold elections for the central committee within 30 days, beginning yesterday, which was the day he received resignation letters from 21 central committee members.

NONE The resignations of two-thirds of the powerful central committee have forced the embattled party to call for fresh leadership elections.

This morning, the MCA Youth and Women's wing executive committees has resolved to postpone its AGM scheduled for tomorrow.

However, both wings will proceed with their joint dinner for delegates tonight, who have already arrived in anticipation for the AGM tomorrow.

Leaders of the two wings have been at loggerheads with Ong, who has been trying to delay the party polls until later this year.
