Majlis Pemuafakatan Rakyat (Mampat) has postponed handing over a memorandum to Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin tomorrow as it has not received written permission from the palace.

Mampat chairperson Mohd Fauzi Abu Samah said the handing over of the memorandum, which was planned together with Gerakan Bertindak Kembalikan Royalti (Gegar), is postponed to a date to be announced later.    

"As an NGO which adheres to laws and regulations we agree and will apply again for an audience. We apologise to the people for any inconvenience," he told Bernama in Kuala Terengganu today.

Initially, Mampat and Gegar had wanted to hand over the memo to Tuanku Mizan when he returned to Terengganu.

Both NGOs are urging the federal government to restore oil royalty rights to Terengganu and Kelantan.

Mampat has been campaigning in support of the oil royalty and Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said when the latter was faced with the tussle for the state's top political post.

Terengganu’s oil royalties have been managed by the federal government from 2000, when PAS took over the state - under a special fund, popularly known as 'goodwill money' (wang ehsan).

The government has also recently announced the payment of 'wang ehsan’, which is channelled through federal-controlled agencies in Kelantan, instead of the PAS state government.
