After nearly a month-long manhunt, the man reported to have 'married' an 11-year old girl has been arrested.

Kelantan Criminal Investigations Department chief ACP Mazlan Lazim was quoted by Bernama today as having said that the suspect, 33, was arrested yesterday at about 6.30pm at the Pasir Mas train station.

He is being held to assist in investigations into a marriage involving an under-aged girl, and has been remanded for three days starting today, Mazlan told reporters in Kota Baharu.

The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1) of the Children's Act 2001, which is liable to a fine of not more than RM20,000, jail sentence of up to ten years, or both.

The father of the girl, Shamsuddin 'Sudin Ajaib' Che Deraman, is believed to have married his 11-year old daughter to his friend, identifed as 'Azhar', in a car.

Shamsuddin himself is accused of having married another 11-year old girl, Siti Nur Zubaidah Hussin.

He has, however, since disappeared and is being sought for by the authorities.

He has been asked to surrender himself to the Kelantan Islamic Affairs Department (JHEAIK) for investigations.

On March 13, Nur Zubaidah, was found at the Madrasah al-Ikhwan, Taman Samudera Jaya, Batu Caves, Selangor, 23 days after being 'married off' to 'Azhar'.

"The police launched a team to hunt both suspects and succeeded in arresting Azhar yesterday, whereas Sudin Ajaib is still being sought for," said Mazlan.
