Police have left it to the Home Ministry to decide whether a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) should be set up to investigate the death of Amirulrasyid Amzah.

Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan said police would cooperate with all quarters in investigating case to find justice.

"It is up to the government whether to form a Royal Commission or not," he told a press conference at a speial gathering of police civilian staff to mark Police Day celebration in Kuala Lumpur today.

Amirulrasyid, 15, was shot dead by police in Shah Alam on April 26. His family had requested for a Royal Commission to investigate his death.

On the press conference by his friend Muhamad Azamuddin Omar, 15, yesterday, Musa said: "That's his version. He will have to tell the court."

On another note, the IGP said 4,000 uniformed police personnel working in the office had been deployed for field duty.

"Some 861 personnel nationwide had taken over from uniformed staff in the field but it is still inadequate."

Musa said he had asked the government to hasten the transfer of civilian staff to police to avoid work from piling up in the office.

Fifty-one PDRM civilian staff nationwide received commendation letters from the IGP today for their excellent work.
