A living quarters occupied by 10 workers of a sawmill belonging to the father of BN candidate for the Sibu parliamentary by-election, Robert Lau Hui Yew, was razed in a fire today.

Sibu OCPD, ACP Shafie Ismail, when contacted, said the fire was detected about 8.20am and that no casualty was reported.

He ruled out foul play in the fire or that it had any connection with the by-election.

"It is just pure coincidence," he added.

Lau, 45, is involved in a three-cornered fight with DAP's Wong Ho Leng and independent candidate, Narawi Haron, in the by-election that had been called following the demise of Sibu incumbent, Robert Lau Hoi Chew.

The senior Lau is cousin of the BN candidate.
