The family of shooting victim S Surentiran are calling for the suspension of the four police personnel who fired their weapons in subduing a man who ran amok last night in Kampung Kuantan, Kuala Selangor.

hindraf pc 241209 k vasanthakumar According to Hindraf leader K Vasanthakumar ( right ), the police involved should be suspended because they had used unnecessary force which had caused injury to an onlooker.

"The police had made a mistake and used excessive force to subdue the ex-commando who ran amok," he said after accompanying the victim's family and their lawyer to file a police report at Kota Damansara police station today.

He added that it is important for the police to conduct an internal investigation.

It was reported yesterday that a man with mental health problems attacked a fellow villager with a knife in Kampung Kuantan and was shot three times by the police when attempts to coax him into giving up had failed.

In the commotion, 22-year-old Surentiran was hit by a stray bullet fired by the police.

The amok, Abu Zahid Abdul Hamid, and Surentiran were taken to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.

Kuala Selangor OCPD Superintendent Mohd Taib Ahmad confirmed that Abu Zahid was a former patient at Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan in Perak from 2002 to 2003 and had been detained by police three times for aggressive behaviour.
