Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy trial has attracted a large turnout with the public started queuing up for seats as early as 4am.

Retired civil servants, Che Nadin Amiruddin, 62, and Bhajan Singh, 69, from Klang said they met in Klang at about 2am and arrived at the court at about 4am.

"We attended the proceedings since Monday. It is not a problem for us to wait until the registration counter opened at 7am as we want to follow the case closely," quipped Che Nadin.

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) law student Nurul Nadiah Kemarudin, 22, came with two of her course mates to the court.

"Despite arriving at 5am we were almost turned away by the police as there were already too many people queuing up for the seats in the public gallery," she told Bernama .

For Australian High Commission third secretary Michael Helleman, he was there to report for the Australian Foreign Ministry.

Freelance reporter Simon Montiake, who is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia, said he did not encounter any problem in following the proceedings except teething problems in understanding the court procedures.
