The Short Messaging Service (SMS) which claimed Batu Lintang assemblyman Voon Lee Shan would quit the DAP and become an

independent assemblyman sparked a media frenzy here.

Eventually, the SMS turned out to be a hoax.

Party membership suspended for six months

voon lee shan When contacted by Bernama , Voon denied calling for a press conference to announce his resignation as DAP assemblyperson at the service centre, and even queried the media where it received such an invitation for his so-called media conference.

Sounding calm and composed, he laughed off the SMS content, saying he was still with the DAP.

In March, this year, it was reported that the DAP disciplinary committee had suspended Voon's party membership for six months, effective March 17.

The committee, chaired by DAP vice-chairperson Tan Kok Wai, was quoted as saying that the unanimous decision was reached after taking into consideration complaints lodged against Voon for making public statements detrimental to the party's image.

Voon, a police officer before joining politics, won in the 2006 state

election against SUPP's Chan Seng Khai, by a majority of 3,407 votes.
