Court to sentence Bung Moktar, Zizie tomorrow

Kapten Pencen: He is a lawmaker, and he knows the rules. He is making a mockery of the very law that he is representing. He thinks he is above the law. So send him to jail for six months so that he may realise that he, too, is not above the law. Give him the maximum sentence allowed for the offence.

Parvinder Kler: It's sad to see that some want him strung off the nearest tree because he is a 'lawmaker'. Everyone must be equal before the law, and treated equally.

I, too, would love to see him given a punishment that leads to a by-election (as would almost certainly be the case if he was a Pakatan Rakyat man), but the judge must only consider the merits of the case.

Best I know is that this usually leads to a fine, not a jail sentence for most. If that is the case, then so be it. And who's to say they aren't really in love? I did not know you know all these girls well enough to pass judgement on them. You think you are a better human being than them?

Lucia: They are high-profile characters, so they should be punished more severely for setting such an example.

But then that's not how our country's system works. It works the other way around. If you are high-profile, you will get scot-free or given a very lenient sentence. But if you are a nobody, the plain rakyat like you and me, wah... teruknya.

Their lawyer was talking about getting a lighter sentence because they are first-time offenders. Excuse me? For some cases, like this one involving Bung Moktar Radin and Zizie, it shouldn't matter if you are a first-time offender or not.

Don't tell me that after this they are going to repeat the offence again. In some cases, there should be only one time, so the question of being first-time offenders and getting a light sentence shouldn't arise.

Fence sitter: Bung is not an ordinary rakyat as he is supposed to be a role model. As a lawmaker, in my opinion, he should not be let go with a lower fine. Instead, the maximum permissible should be imposed as a lesson for other potential lawbreakers.

Bung Moktar 'not fit' to be MP

Hoon Lim: He will get away with a very light sentence. Most of those in the ruling government have more than one woman, openly or in secret. That has been the trend for many, many years.

RoseAmongstThorns: Pity BN for this kind of man they have as their MP. Pity Kinabatangan people - no wonder they remain the poorest in the country while their MP and his new wife drive around in a Porsche.

If we were in the UK, Bung would have been asked to leave the August House a long time ago when he made those sexist remarks in Parliament. Alas, nobody in his party cares because they are all in the same boat, doing the same thing, thinking the same.

To his new wife, you put shame to all of us women out here.

Disgusted: He is an insult to the people of Kinabatang who voted for him. Either they are deaf, blind and dumb to have such an idiot for their MP, or they were conned or bribed into voting for him. They should throw him out once and for all in the next general election. It clearly shows the calibre of BN candidates - racists and sexists who should be dumped once and for all.

Tan Kian Khim: On the contrary, we should let Bung Moktar stay on as MP for this final term. He will serve as a useful reminder to the Malaysian people of the kind of low-class, sexist and racist boors that make up the ranks of Umno/BN leaders - and as a poster boy for the kind of gutter politician who should never again be elected into office.

Concern Malaysian: Only those who lead by example are fit to be in a leadership position. If we don't take this leadership by example thing seriously, our next generation will be fooled and deceived into having the wrong idea and concept of leadership. Leaders must portray the right image and character, and be well-respected by people for his excellency, integrity and honesty.

Yuvan: Bung Moktar Radin is just a sample case of many other MPs in our parliament - both from the ruling and the oppostion parties - who are 'not fit' to be our parliamentarians for a variety of reasons.

Lawmakers should have an impeccable character and should hold their heads high without any guilt in their conscience. It is not a question of whether they have committed civil or criminal offence. Whatever the offence, they should vacate their political positions voluntarily. If not, the sanctity of parliament will not be respected and preserved by the people.

Anonymous: Psychology could help explain the terrain we're in. Most of our affluent MPs and Datuks think their first wives were a mistake. They go for "terminal two" and find to their surprise that they made an irrevocably bigger mistake.

Falling in love at his age is not the priority, something else is. He is going through his second life. Some MPs go for burly big bikes, others go for pretty young things. Bung just couldn't get a licence for the ‘other thing.'

Huguangolf: Come on, leave the man alone. Bung Moktar is not one of my favourite persons in the world but can't you all see that the man is in love? It has happened to the best of us. This 'love thing' makes us do funny things.
