Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein gave his assurance that the Kelantan royalty would continue to be treated with respect despite the alleged harsh treatment of one of its members by the police.

He said the ministry would extend its cooperation and assistance to the royal institution.

However, Hishammuddin declined to divulge information on his two-hour meeting with the Raja Perempuan of Kelantan, Tengku Anis Tengku Abdul Hamid, at Istana Mahkota in Kubang Kerian last night.

"We will do what is best by giving the respect deserving of the royal institution."

He said this to reporters after the meeting following the allegation that Tengku Anis was harshly treated by the police when the Kelantan Sultan, Tuanku Ismail Petra, was receiving treatment at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) on May 4.

However, Kelantan deputy police chief Amir Hamzah Ibrahim denied the allegation and urged those involved to lodge a police report.

The Kelantan Sultan's elder sister, Tengku Merjan Yahya Petra, wanted Hishammuddin to clarify the allegation by Tengku Anis.
