Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) is not panicking of its candidate's defeat at the Sibu parliamentary by-election on May 16.

Special adviser in the Chief Minister's Office Amar Adenan Satem said in Kuching today, the defeat would not affect BN at federal or state level.

"BN still has control of the State Assembly while the opposition remain as they were," he said when debating the Yang Dipertua Negeri Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng's opening address in the state assembly.

Adenan (BN-Tanjung Datu) said the opposition which won with a 398 vote majority made lots of promises to Sibu people and BN wanted to see how much could be met.

He added Sarawak BN would monitor to see what the opposition could do for Sibu people in two years.
