vox populi small thumbnail 'It is not 'sensational views' but racist views aim to divide and sow hatred among the races - and all you can say is Utusan has to change? Do you have the gumption to discipline them? '

Najib raps Utusan: Not too much sensationalism, please

code168: I think this is the two-head snake strategy of Umno - on one hand, they talk about 1Malaysia, let's be brothers and sisters, on the other, Umno uses Utusan Malaysia to fan racialism, talk about Ketuanan Melayu and how the other races, especially the Chinese rob the Malays of all opportunities and all Malays must therefore unite and fight back.

Never mind if Malaysia is going down the drain so long as Umno remains in power and enjoys all the goodies with their cronies.

Yuvan: The PM said that "our goal is to bring the country success, not just through physical development, but through the development of the intellect and values". If the PM truly believes in what he has said and also in his '1Malaysia' propaganda, then he should know that Utusan is doing exactly the opposite.

The paper is destroying the intellect and values of the people through its racist stance. The government should have severely reprimanded Utusan many times in the past for its racist views and its lopsided reports about race relations in Malaysia.

If the government has a separate set of rules and guidelines for Utusan , and if Utusan is at liberty to do what it wants, then it is only fair that the government allows all other newspapers and media to have the same liberty and "develop intellect and values" according to how they see fit, i.e. include a "little bit" of sensationalism and conflict.

What's wrong in a "little bit" when Utusan can say "a lot" and get away with it?

Allan Kong: Mr PM, it is not 'sensational views' but racist views aim to divide and sow hatred among the races - and all you can say is Utusan has to change? Do you have the gumption to discipline them?

Obama's silence over Sodomy II draws flak

Brahman: It's amazing how a person like Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan can have such easy access to Najib Razak, the prime minister of Malaysia, as well as the inspector-general of police, while the captains of industry have to make appointment to discuss issues pertaining to the country's economy by going through the official channels. And they have to wait months for an appointment, that is if they can get one.

Multi Racial: Najib's credibility has gone down the drain with Sodomy II, 114 million euro commission to a newly setup company own by Najib's good friend, Altantuya Shaariibuu's body blown up in pieces by Najib's bodyguard. I believe eventually the truth will find it way out and all those who did evil will be punished.

Mikey: I have never believed in President Barack Obama as the bearer of change and I think I have been proven right. He is above all a politician and in that quirky American style of "I know best what is good for you and the world", nothing much is going to change.

A lot of Americans and people around the world have now woken up from the hypnotic trance they were lulled into by Obama's spin.

RS Ipoh: The Washington Post is not as liberal as it is being equated by this article. Its editorials has been seen to have a more conservative bent and careful analysis of the types of articles it publishes tend to indicate a mixtual of left and right ideological views. In my own daily reading of this paper, I have found the opinon sections have a very strong conservative voice.

Loyal Malaysian: Of course, if the Obama administration adds its voice to the condemnation of the persecution of Anwar in Sodomy II, it shall be a positive development. But we do not need the verification from the Americans to know it's an abuse of the due process of law by the Umnoputras.

Cala: Where is Obama on human rights under Apco Worldwide's intoxication? To expect the same response from Obama the way Al Gore reacted to Sodomy I is impossible for two things:

i) that America is a lot poorer now than in Clinton/Al Gore's time (Stiglitz, 2010);

ii) Najib's successful pre-emptive strike in winning over Obama's cooperation to keep mute on Sodomy II through Apco Worldwide.

That said, it does not mean Obama is endorsing everything Najib does. He would be obtuse if he does that. However, time is of the essence as Sodomy II would have come to an end with Anwar found guilty a few months down the road. By then, any exhortation from Obama will be purely academic.

Firefly: I might be a little over influenced by Fox News these days. But I find the political correctness of the man (Obama) annoying sometimes. In the US, Obama is quite forthcoming about gay rights and matters like federal funding for abortion. But looks like with Muslim countries, he becomes coy. Talk about playing to the audience.

Federal Court: MACC can interrogate witnesses after office hours

Habib RAK: In the rush to support the mismanaged MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission), the country's highest court, i.e Federal Court, has failed the society on what is reasonable and fair.

Judging from the several recent decisions done by the Court of Appeals and Federal Court, I am convinced that we do not have judges in the true sense of the word but actually some puppets sitting at the benches. This decision only paves the way for more intimidation and assault on witnesses by the authorities.

P Dev Anand Pillai: This is not some simple case - if the MACC is now allowed to interrogate as they see fit, then we may see many more individuals who are asked to help in investigations to suddenly commit suicide.
