Seven men, believed to be involved in gay activities, were detained by police during a raid at Pulau Tikus, last night.

Penang CID Chief SAC II Wan Abdullah Tunku Said said police waited for about 30 minutes before raiding the a Fitness Center at 9.30pm because it was a members-only centre.

"During the raid, police detained the seven men - a caretaker and six workers  aged between 20 and 30 - who were involved in immoral activities in the centre," he told reporters when contacted here today.

Wan Abdullah said police also seized three towels, massage oil, tissue boxes and a tube of lubrication jelly believed to be used during gay activities.

"Initial investigations revealed that the premises did not have a business licence," he said.

"Our investigations also revealed that the place had been operating despite having been raided three times before in five months this year and 10 times last year.

Meanwhile, in another raid carried out at an entertainment centre during Ops Noda at Jalan Cantonment here, police detained 10 foreign women who were believed to have been working at the centre as Guest Relation Officers (GRO), and a local man believed to be the caretaker of the centre.

Wan Abdullah added that the 10 women who were detained during the 11.35pm raid comprised five from China and another five from Vietnam, all aged between 20 and 30.

"During the raid, three local men were being entertained by three foreign women. Police also found a plate with a white substance, believed to be drugs, and straws.

"Two of the women - a Vietnamese and a Chinese national, also tested positive for drugs. All the women had entered the country using social visit visa and had no working permits. Another four other local GRO tested positive for ketamin," he said.

The entertainment centre was also believed to be offering prostitution services to those who patronized the centre.
