Cuepacs still hopes that the government will re-consider giving civil servants two months' bonus after the country's economy registered a healthy growth.

cuepacs omar osman 181007 Its president, Omar Osman, said he hoped that the appeal for two months' bonus last year for civil servants, would be re-considered this year.

"We understand that last year, due to the global economic meltdown, the government had to reject our request but we hope that the government will re-consider our request this year as the country's economy has improved," he said, referring to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's announcement that the country's economy recorded a 10.1 per cent growth for the first quarter this

year.

Omar told reporters after a briefing at the Penang Hospital today that Cuepacs still wanted the government to reconsider its proposal to extend the maternity leave to 90 days, from the current 60 days.

"The current 60 days of maternity leave is clearly not enough for the female workers because many of them tend to take unpaid leave to tend to their children and other family matters," he said.

90-days maternity proposed many times

He said the proposal had been made many times but to date there had been no decision.

"If the government thinks that 90 days of maternity leave is too long, we hope that it will come with a better alternative than the current 60 days," he said.

He also said that he had discussed with the Public Service Department (PSD) the proposal to increase the housing allowance to RM300 from RM180 currently and was waiting for a response.
