Anwar Ibrahim's civil suit against his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, for malice in lodging a report that he was sodomised by Anwar was fixed for further case management on Sept 23.

NONE High Court deputy registrar K Pavani fixed the date in chambers upon meeting Anwar's counsel Jason Tay and Zamri Idrus, for Mohd Saiful.

Zamri told reporters that the Anwar's counsel asked the court for another mention date pending disposal of his trial on a sodomy charge at the High Court.

 

The High Court has set May 31 to June 4 and Aug 2-30 to continue Anwar's sodomy trial.

Anwar, 63, the opposition leader, filed the suit against Mohd Saiful, 25, on June 30, 2008, claiming that the latter lodged the police report with ulterior motive and also to damage his character as a politician.

NONE In his statement of claim, he said Mohd Saiful knew that the sodomy charge was false but went ahead and lodged the police report on June 28, 2008.

He claimed that as a result of the police report, his reputation had been tarnished and and he had undergone great suffering and embarrassment.

Mohd Saiful, in his statement of defence filed in May 2009, said the police report was justified and that if it was not true the prosecution would not have charged Anwar with sodomy.
