Tarat assemblyperson Roland Sagah Wee Inn fractured three of his right ribs after his four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle skidded and plunged into a ravine in Jalan Puncak Borneo today.
"I believe the accident happened as a result of brake problems," he told reporters after receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital's accident and emergeny unit in Kuching.
He said three other passengers and the driver of the 4WD escaped unhurt in the incident.
Appearing calm despite the ordeal, Roland said the incident happened at 2pm while they were returning to Kuching after attending a community function nearby.
He added that coincidentally Mambong member of parliament and Deputy Tourism Minister James Dawos Mamit was also passing through the area in another 4WD and on learning of their predicament, immediately summoned help to get him to the hospital.
