Lawyers for Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim were ordered to give written submissions on Khairy's appeal in a RM100 million defamation suit against him by Anwar.

Kuala Lumpur High Court senior assistant registrar Nazri Yahya set July 19 for the next case management after meeting the lawyers in chambers today.

Khairy is appealing against the court's dismissal of his application to set aside a judgment in default obtained by Anwar in the suit.

On May 31, Nazri dismissed with costs, Khairy's bid to set aside the default judgment made by the High Court on Dec 4, 2008, after Khairy failed to enter an appearance.

Nazri ruled that the serving of the writ of summons on Khairy was valid and there was no merit in his statement of defence.

Anwar, 63, is suing Khairy, as the then Umno Youth vice-chief, over his remarks at a ceramah in Lembah Pantai here on Feb 20, 2008, that was posted on video by websites, including Malaysiakini.com, entitled 'Anwar and kin no threat'.

Anwar alleged the words used by Khairy meant he was involved in activities contradictory to Islam, did not have good character and was unfit to hold political or other positions.
