Heavy vehicles will be banned during peak hours in the morning to ease congestion at certain routes of the Projek Lebuhraya Utara Selatan (Plus) in the Klang Valley, beginning Aug 2.

Federal traffic police chief SAC Abdul Aziz Yusof said the affected routes included New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) between Shah Alam and Jalan Duta, North-South Expressway (NSE) between Sungai Buloh and Bukit Lanjan and the Federal Highway Route 2 between Subang and Sungai Rasau.

He told a press conference at the Persada Plus building in Petaling Jaya today that the police would not hesitate to issue compound fines to heavy vehicles which flouted the rule.

"We will impose a RM1,000 compound fine and a three-month jail sentence to those breaking the law under Section 20(4) of the Road Transport Act 1970," he said.

The ban, similar to the existing ban on heavy vehicles from entering Kuala Lumpur during the morning peak hours, involves heavy vehicles (Class 2 and Class 3) with laden weight of 10,000kg and above, or unladen weight of 10,000kg and above.
