The Malay community's rights and privileges are enshrined in the Federal Constitution and as such they should neither feel insecure nor feel threatened by certain quarters out to exploit the issue for political mileage, said Gerakan deputy president Chang Ko Youn.

He was commenting on a police report lodged recently by the 1Malaysia Youth Graduates Club in Serdang, calling for action to be taken against the the Bar Council's ‘MyConstitution' campaign, for allegedly promoting the changing of provisions in the constitution, especially those touching on the special position of Malays and Islam.

The lawyer added that the council's My Constitution" campaign was a good public education initiative and should not be taken out of context.

"Not many people fully understand the Federal Constitution, the foundation of nationhood of this country. So it is only right on the Bar Council's part to provide simple and clear explanations," explained Chang, who is also the party's bureau chief on human rights and law.
