DAP state deputy chief M Kulasegaran has called for a review of the Perak DAP's practice of fielding one candidate for two seats, describing it as counter productive, as it blunts efficient service to the people.

So in strategic terms, this practice of fielding one candidate for both parliamentary and state seats has to be reviewed, he said.

"Even holding and serving a single seat is already a mammoth task. What more if a person holds two elected posts?" he asked.

NONE Kulasegaran ( left ) pointed out that there is no lack of capable, dedicated and honest members in the Perak DAP with winning qualities."By ceasing the practice of fielding one candidate in two seats, we can also allow these deserving candidates the chance to serve the party and the people.

"We need to weed out the inefficient and the opportunists and we need to identify new people, otherwise we may not make it to Putrajaya," he warned. The DAP Ipoh Barat MP was speaking at a thanks giving dinner at Kg Bintang at Belum Estate, Sitiawan, last night.

The function was to celebrate the people's power in forcing the BN government to cancel the intended compulsory acquisition of the Indian heritage land in Sitiawan.

He said that Aug 25, 2010 was certainly a day of pride for the local Indian community and the DAP for even though the BN could "seize" Perak from the coalition, they could not do with the Heritage land.

NONE He also said Malaysia Day which was declared a public holiday on Thursday, should have been declared way back in 1963 when Sabah and Sarawak joined the peninsular to form Malaysia.

If it was not for the 2008 general election results which gave the BN its worst thrashing, Sept 16 would never have been declared a public holiday, he said.

"This shows the power of people's votes and what changes the people's votes can bring about," he added.

Currently, there are over 4 million unregistered voters in the nation of which around 900,000 are Perakians. They can be a significant factor in the electoral outcome if they cast their ballots in the next polls.

Automatically registration will be the ideal and practical solution to solve the problem of such high number of unregistered voters.However, he claimed that the BN government fears young voters and therefore will not support this long standing proposal of the DAP.

Hence, it is imperative that DAP branches double or even treble efforts to register new voters to pull off the twin objectives of capturing Perak and win federal power in the next general elections.

He predicted that the next general election will be the most important in the nation's history and bound to be the dirtiest as well for the BN is sure to employ such tactics to hang on to power.
