DAP says that Deputy Premier Muhyiddin Yassin’s open admission last Thursday that he has no power to act against the highly publicised racist school principals will open the floodgates for ‘little Napoleons’ in the civil service to roam out of control.

Three more DAP leaders have also blasted the deputy premier for not taking swift action through the relevant authorities against the two alleged racist principals.

Party national labour bureau chief A Sivanesan said that the BN government has two options to punish the two principals.

They could have the police and attorney-general’s chambers charge them for criminal action under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948.  

Alternatively, the Education Ministry’s disciplinary board headed by director-general Abu Bakar Abdullah could hold a domestic enquiry on the misconduct by the principals.

Sivanesan ( left ) questioned why the police are dragging their feet in investigating the police reports made by the concerned parents against the principals.

“Have they completed their investigations and passed the findings to the attorney-general’s chambers for further action?” he asked.

He also took Abu Bakar to task for allegedly delaying the call for the disciplinary board to meet and take necessary action against the principals.

According to Sivanesan, Abu Bakar was quoted in the media as saying that he has to find out if all the members of the board are free before commencing with the inquiry.

‘Muhyiddin misses the point’

Meanwhile the verbal tussle between Muhyiddin and DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang continued today when the DPM said Lim was a ‘100 percent politician’ and has never been a government servant, hence his ignorance of their role.

sibu by election lim kit siang The deputy premier had also challenged Lim to cite the constitutional provisions or laws that gave the deputy prime minister or education minister the power to take action against a senior civil servant with a permanent position.

Lim ( left ) in a media statement clarified that nobody was suggesting that Muhyiddin should personally take action against the two principals, one from Johor and another in Kedah.

 

The point, said the DAP veteran, was that Muhyiddin must bear the double responsibility as deputy prime minister and education minister for a government that for 45 days has been unable to take action against such offensive, racist and sensitive remarks, especially in the education system involving school principals.

“If Muhyiddin as ... minister is not responsible, who then is responsible?” asked Lim.

“Is there anybody else in the cabinet to whom Muhyiddin can pass this buck to in terms of bearing political responsibility, or does he want to push the whole responsibility to the prime minister himself?

“Or is nobody to be held politically responsible for this deplorable state of affairs, because the Najib government has become a shambolic and headless government?” he asked.    

Meanwhile, party national vice-president M Kulasegaran scorned Najib’s claim that the government would take action against anyone guilty of racist remarks, saying, “Actions speak louder than words.”
