Three Malaysian police officers are in neighbouring Indonesia to trace how the money was raised to fund last October's deadly Bali bombing, a report said today.

The Malay Mail newspaper said the officers were investigating how Malaysian Wan Min Wan Mat, alleged treasurer of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network, raised and delivered the money for the attack.

The Malaysians are expected to question five suspects held by Indonesian police, including Ali Ghufron, also known as Mukhlas, who has been described as JI's operations chief, and alleged field commander for the Bali bombings Imam Samudra.

Funds delivered

Wan Min was arrested last September and is being held under Malaysia's Internal Security Act, which allows indefinite detention without trial.

The Malay Mail said he allegedly delivered US$35,000 (RM133,000) to Samudra to fund the bomb attack which killed 200 people, mainly Australian tourists.

JI, which allegedly aims to create a regional pan-Islamic state, has been linked to the al-Qaeda terror network of Osama bin Laden. - AFP
