The alleged misconduct of 10 police officers in the seizure of drugs worth about RM254 million in Pahang last year, indicated a need to further enhance police integrity, said Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar.

Nevertheless, he said, the police had launched a probe into the case and among others, might suspend the police officers, including an inspector.

Ismail was speaking to reporters at a Hari Raya open house at the Bukit Aman Narcotics Department today.

He was commenting on the case of lorry driver Lee Yong Toe, 48, who was acquitted by the Kuantan High Court of trafficking in the drug in May last year, in Rompin.

In his judgment last Wednesday, judicial commissioner Akhtar Tahir said the court was informed that there was a report on several police officers having admitted to the theft of about 40kg of the seized drug.
