PKR deputy presidency aspirant Mustaffa Kamil Ayub today brushed off the "endorsement" Perkasa gave him for the post, describing the act as an attempt to provoke discord among the party's leaders.

At a press conference in Petaling Jaya today, Mustaffa described as "suspicious" the public support for him expressed by Perkasa Youth chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah.

NONE Mustaffa ( right ) said that Arman Azha appeared to be trying to pit him against the two other deputy presidency aspirants, Azmin Ali and Zaid Ibrahim.

"If he wants to see me feuding with Azmin or Zaid, I want to stress that all of PKR's leaders are mature in handling Perkasa-Umno's dirty politics," said Mustaffa.

Arman Azha told reporters yesterday that Perkasa was endorsing Mustaffa as PKR deputy president because of his credentials as a former leader of the influential Muslim youth movement Abim.

Arman Azha also dismissed Azmin as PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's " coffee boy ".

'Reject chauvinists and extremists'

Mustaffa also said that PKR will not compromise on its multiracial agenda with Perkasa, who is notorious for its "racist" leanings.

NONE "PKR is a party for all races. We must reject extremist elements (such as) Perkasa and Umno," he said.

He was always open, he said, to discuss matters such as Islam with Perkasa, as long as it was within the confines of the federal constitution, and that he would reject all forms of chauvinism or extremism that Perkasa was often accused of.

Asked about the significance of Arman Azha's public show of support, Mustaffa said all the statement did was arouse interest among party members and the media.

"However, I must ensure that this 'support' doesn't cause collapse instead," he said.
