Kelantan Umno liaison chairperson Mustapa Mohamed has called on all parties to stop speculating on who would be the BN candidate for the Galas by-election on Nov 4.

He said what was important now was for the Umno machinery and members to work hard to ensure BN would win back the Galas state seat.

"I feel there is no need for us to talk about the candidate. It's not productive. Doesn't bring any good.

"I call on all parties to stop talking about the candidate. Certainly, the (BN) election director has some ideas we will accept whatever his decision is," he told reporters when met in Putrajaya today.

Prior to this, there have been speculations that Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah would be fielded as the BN candidate for the Galas state by-election.

The Election Commission (EC) today set Nov 4 as polling day for the Galas state assembly seat, if there is a contest, while nomination day would be on Oct 26.

The by-election is called following the death of its incumbent Chek Hashim Sulaima on Sept 27. Chek Hashim, 46, from PAS, died of cancer of the intestine.

He won the Galas seat in the 2008 general election after defeating BN's Mohd Saufi Deraman with a majority of 646 votes.

On the selection of Tengku Razaleigh as the BN and Umno election director for the by-election, Mustapa said the Kelantan Umno liaison committee unanimously agreed to it.

Mustapa, who is the BN and Umno deputy election director for Galas by-election, said he would discuss with Tengku Razaleigh before drawing up programmes in Galas.

"I will only mobilise the machinery after discussing it with him (Tengku Razaleigh)," he added.
