It looks like pressure is mounting on Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, as yet another Umno leader sidestepped questions on the party's potential candidates for the Galas by-election.

Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan is the latest senior leader to follow in the lead of deputy president and Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who had said earlier that Razaleigh is the best person to recommend who should run in the Nov 4 contest.

Muhyiddin had also said it was best left to Razaleigh, better known as Ku Li, to strategise Umno's Galas campaign, seeming to indicate that the party leadership is leaving it to the Kelantan prince to run the show.

NONE Ahmad, ( left ) however, came up with his own take on Galas, saying that the candidacy should be the last thing on the list.

He recited 'Mat Jen Pe Cal' or 'matlamat, jentera, perpaduan dan calon' (goal, machinery, unity and candidate) as a suitable guideline for Umno and the BN to follow.

"First and foremost is the goal, and our goal is to win. Then we should look at our machinery, followed by unity in the party and the BN.

"The candidate is the fourth and last thing we should look at," he said at a press conference at Felda Villa in Kuala Lumpur here today.

Ahmad also echoed the view of Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed, who said that it is "unproductive" to speculate on who will be Umno's candidate in Galas.

"That will be recommended by the election director and the final decision rests with the prime minister, so let the speculation rest," he said.
