Another 60 senior citizens in Penang today returned the compassionate payment of RM100 given by the state government following doubts that it came from gambling revenue.

Abdullah Aziz, 61, a former policeman, said the state government’s action of distributing the money that was obtained from gambling revenue was indeed shameful and contravened the Islamic teachings.

“We feel cheated and want to return the money because we don’t want to be an accomplice. We also feel that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has no respect for Islam and our dignity,” he told a press conference in Balik Pulau today.

Also present were Teluk Bahang state assemblyman Dr Hilmi Yahya, who is also Balik Pulau Umno chief.

Meanwhile, Lebar Ahmad, 69, said she decided to return the money on her own accord and was not forced by any quarters.

“I don’t want the money from a haram source. I don’t mind being poor, and I will not take the money,” she said.
