Speaker: No debate, 'racist' principals already disciplined

Swipenter: Racism is one of the biggest, pervasive, insidious and a ticking time-bomb facing our country and yet we have a speaker who does not see it fit and urgent to have the issue debated in Parliament.

Either he is living in his own oyster shell or he is in deep denial about racism pervading in almost every aspect of our daily lives. We have too many stooges in position of power affecting our lives.

Adil bukan sahaja kepada pihak pembangkang, tetapi adil juga kepada seluruh rakyat Malaysia, dan berlaku adil di sisi Tuhan Yang Maha Adil. Dengan izin, dalam pepatah Inggeris:

DOC: I was having a real headache this morning at work. I thought of taking some time off to catch up with my daily dose of Malaysiakini . I would like to thank Pandikar Amin Mulia for making me laugh today with his statement that there was "no need to debate the racist headmasters as the two racist principles are being disciplined".

Let me guess - the education minister has sent both of the headmasters to a corner to face the wall and think about what they have done? Or were they gently rapped on the knuckles and told "lain kali, jangan buat"? Or better still, were they asked to write on the blackboard 500 times "Saya akan hormat semua rakyat Malaysia"?

Aku Malaysian: And what was the disciplinary action that was taken? I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a light slap on the wrist for them two. Is this justice? Is this 1Malaysia? We should have seen the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) swarmed onto these racists like they usually do to civil society groups holding peaceful candlelight vigils.

How come the speaker is beholden to the executive? Where is the separation of powers? Sorry, that was a stupid question... I forgot that Umno/BN does not understand such lofty political ideals - all they know is money.

Albert: Does speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia realise that the incidents happened in not one but two schools which are supposed to develop the thinking process of our young children? Has he got the intelligence to think through the consequences when this kind of racism is allowed to go unchecked?

I noticed that Pandikar Amin is always rejecting motions to debate critical issues raised by the opposition. Is he so blind to realise that the opposition represents at least 40 percent of the voters in the country and should be allowed to be debate critical issues in Parliament? Has he got the competence to behave as a right thinking and sane speaker in this important institution of ours?

Chipmunk: What discipline did the Education Ministry take on the two principals who have no moral principles? By just giving them a stern warning does not indicate action taken. The two principles ought to be demoted and transferred to a far away place so that other principles will understand the seriousness of making racial remarks.

PM Najib Abdul Razak just came back from the United Nations where he made his stand very clear about 'zero tolerance' on racism. So for the Dewan Rakyat speaker, you either step down from further embarrassing this country or take necessary measures to irradiate such nonsense.

JBGUY: The speaker merely proves that he has no guts to take on this issue. He clearly shows that he is not concerned about public issues which needs urgent action. What a disappointment. It is sad that Malaysian speakers lack the calibre necessary for a more democratic parliament.

Pandikar, if you cannot handle simple motions like this, please step down and let someone more impartial to take your place.

Allan Kong: You are all barking at the wrong tree. Pandikar is only the servant of the hand that feeds him. He can't bite the hand.

Similarly, the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), immigration, attorney-general, Election Commission, judiciary, the National Civics Bureau (BTN), the principals of the schools, and many more are domesticated and well-trained to grovel at their masters' feet.

Anonymous: It is sad that this Sabahan is a disgrace to his own people. We initially felt proud that one Sabahan has been appointed as speaker, but unfortunately it turns out that this speaker is no warrior but a gutless coward. He has no guts to put up with issues pertaining to racism. He even say there is no urgency to debate on the two racists principals.

All he said was "the PSD (Public Services Department) has begun initiating disciplinary action on the two school principals". Perhaps the disciplinary action will be taken right before the next general election, one or two years down the road?

Since the days he was appointed speaker, he has never been fair but particularly and glaringly sided with the BN and sought to silence the opposition. This is perhaps fairness based on this coward's interpretation perhaps to ensure him and his family continue to enjoy the perks given to him.

We no longer feel proud to have this coward as speaker as he is a disgrace to all Sabahans.
