MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek said today it was still too early to gauge the Chinese support in the Galas state constituency in Kelantan where a by-election will be held on Nov 4.

"Nevertheless, the MCA has activated its election machinery in the constituency. A majority of the Chinese voters are MCA members who have to be given attention by the leadership in resolving their problems," he told reporters after meeting the Chinese community in the Gua Musang industrial estate.

azlan Also present was MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong and Gua Musang Umno Youth chief Bazlan Baharuddin.

The by-election has been necessitated by the death of the PAS assemblyman, Che Hashim Sulaima (rpt) Sulaima, 46, on Sept 27. Nomination is on Oct 26.

Chua said the Chinese working in the industrial estate wanted a proper road system in the area, and had suggested repair and upgrade of the existing roads.

He also said that the MCA would strive to garner the support of the Chinese voters for the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the by-election.

"So far, we have not made any promises to the Chinese community, and have only held a series of meetings with them," he said.
