Gerakan national vice-president and former Land and Cooperative Development deputy minister Goh Cheng Teik announced his resignation tonight in a move that could lead to the unravelling of the party which had controlled the Penang state government for three decades. Goh, a bitter rival of Chief Minister Koh Tsu Koon, is close to Lim Chien Aun and Lim Boo Chang, the two assemblymen who quit the party yesterday. A few months ago, Goh challenged Koh for the post as Penang Gerakan chief -- a position he held before it was taken over by Koh -- but was defeated in the close fight.
