Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has denied that pressure from the top forced his withdrawal from contesting PKR deputy president's post.

The Menteri Besar also denied that the decision was made as he did not receive strong suppport from Selangor PKR.

"Actually, my supporters wanted to contest the post. It is more important to win the next general election so that we can continue to serve Selangor people," he said after presenting RM3mil aid to Chinese schools in Port Klang today.

The number two post will be contested by vice-president Azmin Ali, Federal Territory chief Zaid Ibrahim and Perak liaison chief Mustaffa Kamil Ayub.

Khalid said his withdrawal from contesting was because he wanted to focus on development in the Klang Valley as mentioned by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in his budget speech.

This was because the 'Greater Kuala Lumpur' project involves billions of ringgit and the Selangor government wants to ensure that it was implemented with efficiency and transarency.

"The state government will cooperate with the federal government so that the project can proceed smoothly as it is for Klang Valley people," he added.

Election for top posts will be held from Oct 31-Nov 21 while the national congress will be from Nov 26-28.
