Najib: Time for BN to spell out deeds to the people

Steven For Malaysia: Well, the BN government has been forced to implement some good policies out of their fright for their survival in the coming general election, which of course is the right thing to do for any government of the day.

However, they are not touching on endemic corruption, the lousy educational standards, civil service inefficiency, the lack of open tenders, meritocracy, and systematic management, etc. They are only good in white elephant projects to siphon money away which drain the country's limited wealth and not generating income.

Good governance is about spending to generate income, which is not confined only to financial returns but also human resource competency and quality improvement of our skills.

Albert: PM Najib Razak said the time has come for the BN to spell out its deeds in improving the lot of the people. But the misdeeds after more than 50 years of uninterrupted rule by the Umno-led government are more horrifying:

1) Large numbers of poor Malays (despite 40 years of affirmative action) and poor non-Malays.

2) Massive losses (in billions of ringgit) suffered by the country due to blatant abuse of power in MAS, Port Klang, forex trading, etc.

3) The sorry state of affairs in the judiciary, police, MACC, AG's Chambers, etc, which discourage both FDI and local investment.

4) The RM50 billion out of RM52 billion worth of bumiputera equity that was disposed off for quick profit which has resulted in the 30 percent bumiputera equity being a contentious issue even today. Mind you, the RM50 billion bumi equity is at IPO price and are sold at probably RM80 to RM100 billion, giving immense wealth to the selected few Umno Malays and their cronies.

5) Rampant corruption which has become an incurable disease today.

6) Selected Umno Malays, cronies and family (e.g. Dr Mahathir Mohamad's billionaire son) being so filthy rich while large number of rakyat remain poor.

7) Untold misery to the masses through artificially inflated car prices due to the protection of Proton.

8) Harassment of opposition and peaceful dissent by the authorities (e.g. police, MACC, etc)

9) The blatant abuse of Article 153.

10) Lop-sided agreements with independent power producers and toll operators, etc. increasing the cost of living for the rakyat.

Lonestar: The not-so-ethical PM Najib says that "for the first time in history, the government also set up the National Wage Consultation Council as a platform to set the wage for workers".

The rakyat says: What took the government so long? Almost half a century, at that! Who has been the government the past 50 years?

Anonymous: 'My First Home Scheme' - why is this loan scheme only for civil servants? And for houses costing RM220,000 and below? They are probably located quite far away, whereas these people that you are helping will probably have to spend more on petrol to get to/fro anywhere.

You want to do something good, why not just take MP Tony Pua's suggestion to re-look the bumiputera discount for luxury properties so that the policy is really for the poor and not the rich Malays who are still taking advantage of it to enrich themselves. As such, the bumiputera rich become richer while the bumiputera poor become poorer.

Instead, you send Pua to be grilled for sedition. Unbelievable.

Khalid: Saving S'gor more important than PKR post

Rolls-Royce: Party posts are an opportunity to serve, not a conduit to power and positions in the government. If your time has come, I think the people will urge you (Khalid Ibrahim) on to stand for the position.

Right now, let those who think they are more capable and ready to fight it out to run for party posts. It is useless to be party boss if the party loses the general election.

Anonymous: This is the right decision. Make Selangor a real crown jewel, a shining example of how a state should be run. A successful, prosperous well-run Selangor government will frighten the hell out of the corrupt BN self-enriching leaders.

Lonestar: Pakatan Rakyat, do try to capture Putrajaya by all ethical means but there is no need for a two-thirds majority. The rakyat should wisen up - giving any government two-thirds majority can only lead to a ‘ sombong ' (arrogant) and unethical government.

See what the Alliance/BN has been doing all this while? It is only the result of losing its two-thirds majority that has brought it to some sense. The rakyat must never again give the government of the day a free hand to misgovern.

Bonus payment depends on economic situation

Patrick Yong: Right, erecting a 100-storey tower is more important than bonus payment for civil servants.

Kgen: A real bloated civil service we have. Just like Greece. And we also have high corrution and lots of people who avoid paying income tax. Just like Greece. Before the Greek government went bankrupt it kept issuing bonds and painting a rosy picture of the economy. Just like us.

But our financial collapse will be unlike Greece which is bolstered by euro. The ringgit will be slashed to a fraction of its value and impoverish the masses. Wait for it.

Artchan: Government servants don't have to worry - just threaten to vote opposition and they will get their bonus, even if the government has no money.
