The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has filed an appeal against the acquittal of former immigration director-general Wahid Md Don by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court last Friday over an alleged involvement in bribery of RM60,000.

MACC head of prosecution Abdul Razak Musa, when contacted today, confirmed that the appeal was filed at the High Court Criminal Registry in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

He said no date was set for the hearing of the appeal.

Wahid, 57, was acquitted and discharged of receiving a RM60,000 bribe from businessman Low Chang Hian to speed up approval of 4,337 visas for Bangladesh workers on July 10, 2008.

In an immediate press statement after verdict on Friday, MACC had stated that there were "solid grounds" for the commission to appeal aganist the court's ruling, where the trial judge did not state grounds for the acquittal.
