About a dozen people turned up at a demonstration today, calling for news portal The Malaysian Insider to be shut down.

 

The members of Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM), headed by its chairperson Azwandin Hamzah, alleged that reports from The Malaysian Insider had undermined the royal institution and fanned racial discord.

It also called for the police to arrest three individuals that were said to have founded the news portal.

They also carried posters that said, “Arrest Sheik Akmal, Kalimullah, Sreedhar” - alleged to be “traitors of the country”.

NONE Speaking during the protest that lasted for a few minutes, Azwandin ( at microphone in pic ) said that the police should arrest the three individuals, just as he was arrested last week for trying to organise a similar protest.

When queried later, Azwandin claimed that Shaik Akmal and Kalimullah Hassan were the founders of the news portal, while Sreedhar (Subramaniam) is a board member of VPI International - a company that is allegedly linked to the news portal.

He also said that the Companies Commision should investigate how the the company received RM900 milion in government contracts.

Azwandin also said that he plans to organise a bigger protest numbering 5,000 people if the authorities did not take action against the news portal.
