The three boys who pleaded guilty to desecrating a surau in Taman Pulai Impian, Sikamat last Aug 23 were today fined RM2,000 each by the Seremban Juvenile Court for the offence.

Magistrate M Mageshwary, who handed down the sentence, also ordered the boys to attend the Social Welfare Department's interactive workshop once a month for two years.

The boys, aged between 15 and 17, from Ulu Temiang and Sikamat in Seremban, had pleaded guilty to committing the offence when they were charged last Aug 27.

They were charged with two counts of vandalism at the surau between 3.30am and 4.30am on Aug 23, 2010.

On the first count, all three boys were charged with throwing the bottles into the compound of the surau in Taman Pulai Impian, Sikamat between 3.30am and 4am on Aug 23.

They were fined RM2,000 each or six months jail and ordered to attend the workshop once a month for a year for the offence.

On the second count, the second, aged 15, and third accused, aged 16, were charged with splashing red paint on the walls of the surau, while the first accused, aged 17, was charged with abetting his two friends.

All three were bound over on good behaviour bond of RM3,000 and were also ordered to attend the Social Welfare Department's workshop once a month for the offence.

The three boys were represented by lawyer Lee Kong Fee, while deputy public prosecutor Mahmud Abdullah prosecuted.
