A forum on Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo, a jailed Chinese dissident, has been postponed following "concerns" expressed by the Chinese embassy.

The forum was slated for tomorrow night at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), but will now be held on Oct 29, to accommodate an additional "pro-Sino" speaker.

He was conferred the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize for his human rights work. News of this was promptly censored in China.

Forum organisers KLSCAH civil rights committee denied that it was "pressured" by the Chinese embassy to call off the forum.

However, committee advisor Ser Choon Ing said that Chinese embassy officials had personally expressed discontent about the forum.

Commenting on this, committee chairperson Liau Kok Fah said that the Chinese embassy's concerns should not be regarded as "pressure", but a "different view".

"Even if there was such pressure it surely would not affect me," said Liau.

Other speakers includes political science scholar Phoon Wing Keong, columnist Josh Hong ( left ) and Sino studies doctoral graduate Raymond Yeap.

Attempts to contact the Chinese embassy for comments were futile.
