Three-cornered fight in Batu Sapi

I am very disappointed with the Batu Sapi contest as the BN doesn't have to do much to win this by- election. They only need for the two opposition parties to fight each other. If SAPP really want to have the seat, why not join Pakatan Rakyat? I'm sure people will support them all the way.

Support SAPP! Sure, SAPP has not come into the Pakatan fold but supporting SAPP against BN is what is needed to ensure that BN's influence is increasingly eroded in East Malaysia.

If DAP can have Penang, PAS Kelantan and Kedah, and PKR Selangor, why can't SAPP have Batu Sapi? Selfish, self-serving PKR.

Jeremy Tankh: Take it easy, Rome was not built in one day. It's okay for a three-cornered fight in Batu Sapi, after all GE13 is only around the corner. Whoever wins, PBS, SAPP or PKR, makes not much different. It does not affect the Sabah/federal political equation at all. At best, the winner will be in Parliament for two or three sessions.

But it will be a timely acid test of Sabahans' support for SAPP and PKR. If both lose, they will have no choice but to work together comes next GE. If SAPP wins, clearly it should be the one to lead the opposition in Sabah fighting BN in the next GE, as in the case of DAP in Penang and PAS in Kelantan and Kedah. If PKR wins, then SAPP should join Pakatan and let PKR leads the Sabah opposition front.

On the other hand, PBS/BN cannot lose as this is their seat. A lost will indicate their decline in Sabahans' support, supposedly BN's fixed deposit. A win means nothing for a by-election is never an accurate measure as BN's might is derive from federal and state's resources.

Dr Pang HC: The adage goes that wise men learn from the mistakes of others and fools, of their own. What does that make of the opposition politicians then? Worse than fools because they never seem to learn at all. Go ahead and have a three-way fight. Hand BN a victory right after the Umno general assembly.

Wira: If the opposition fights each other, they'll surely hand the seat to BN on a platter. Go work out a compromise. If the seat is given to PKR this time, two of the three states seats in the constituency will be given to SAPP in the next general election and vice versa. Make this deal public.

Zaid Ibrahim fumbles his case

Big Picture: Zaid Ibrahim has his own political agenda, no matter how much he tells us that he is fighting for PKR's ideals. In the first place, how committed is he to PKR's ideals? His action is very divisive and this indicates he is not a team player. Sorry Zaid, as a leader you are not in the same league as Anwar Ibrahim.

Anonymous: Zaid said his mission is to correct the weaknesses in PKR and not getting to Putrajaya. Azmin Ali said his fight is for Putrajaya. PAS and DAP are also not without many weaknesses and internal problems. But they are with the PKR leadership steadfast on the road to Putrajaya. The people have had enough of Umno and BN. Malaysia is choked by chronic ills. Our very future and survival are at stake.

But Zaid doesn't have Putrajaya on his mind. Now he spills exactly like Umno. His fight is not against Azmin but against the top leadership of PKR. We are all waiting for Zaid to lose and stay clear from our cherished path to Putrajaya, internal weaknesses notwithstanding.

Adha: Zaid is right. The truth hurts all the time. What if Anwar is indeed jailed for the maximum of 20 years (and this looks imminent by the day)? A question to Azmin and his stooge, are you going to take to the streets or build forces within Pakatan and defeat Umno/BN during the 13th general elections? Which will be your priority? Don't tell us both.

Only a change of government will save Anwar, not street demos, believe me! No doubt it had its power then but Umno will be better prepared this time as Najib said yesterday, ‘Defend Putrajaya at all costs'.

Aquinas Says: This article is meant to point out the flaw in the rationale that Anwar does not need a political party to fight his cause as he is already well represented by lawyers.

Zaid, in urging PKR to grow up and embrace its ideals, is forgetting the reasons why Anwar is being prosecuted. This case is widely regarded as politically motivated and I might add, driven. We do not have a set of institutions that conform to the notion of separation of powers in a credible way and corrupt practices remain endemic.

I agree that PKR must look at the ‘bigger picture' but the fight against injustices perpetrated against all Malaysians must continue unabated. In the Anwar trial, we have the ideal platform to push this through.
