Unsurprised Sabah CM expects multi-cornered fight

Akinabalu: Is Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman a true local and 'anak jati' Sandakan? He is the assemblyperson for Sungai Sibuga, which is in Sandakan. His brother Anifah Aman is the MP from Kimanis, while his elder brother, Ayub Aman, was an assemblyperson from Bingkor, Keningau during the Berjaya era.

Now you tell me if Musa Aman is an ‘anak jati' Sandakan.

This is the same old tired threat of no development if you vote for the opposition. Is it your money, Musa? Or the people's money? Perhaps he can no longer distinguish between the two.

'Taiko' Yong is SAPP's candidate in Batu Sapi

Yobama: In a three-cornered fight, I have no hope that any party opposing BN will win.

Even if the votes are almost evenly split, a faint lead past the post will ensure BN's victory. Even if the BN can command 45 percent of the votes and the combined SAPP and PKR take 55 percent. That may be split 40-15 percent, so the BN will laugh all the way to the state assembly.

Anonymous: Yong Teck Lee, you should work on how to bring change to Sabah. When you were earlier given a chance in power, you failed in your duty. Now you expect people to believe in you again?

Shame on you, being the leader of SAPP. I lost my respect for you as you're a selfish politician.

Satay Saiful: This Yong fellow is shrewd. If he wins, he'll show his muscles and set conditions to put his party back in the BN coalition. I have never ever trusted this back-stabber. He's the one who stabbed Pairin Kitingan and made his party collapse.

Yong, in his last 52 years, has been in every party and has exploited Sabah for himself.

Alan Goh: A special request to Anwar Ibrahim and Jeffrey Kitingan, ie, not to field any candidate which will lead to a three-corner fight since Yong is now standing as a candidate. There is a need for a give-and-take attitude.

Hopefully, by not fielding a candidate in this by-election, SAPP will join Pakatan Rakyat to form a viable alternative to the corrupted Umno/BN parties.

Rolls-Royce: Yes, talk tough and stand. After the election and if he wins, he will probably be back with BN - this is what spineless and hapless politicians in Sabah are all about.

Dear friends, if you want Yong to serve as a loose cannon like that Hindraf leader, please make sure that he stays in the wilderness. Once he is back with the establishment, he will not even remember his father's name. Enough of these half-baked tribal leaders.

PKR, never mind. It is better to lose than not to contest. If BN or SAPP wins, it means Sabahans deserved to be treated the way they have been treated all these years. There should be no give-and-take with opportunists and racists. Fight them on, and be consistent about it.

What is the point of winning one extra seat because of the popularity of Yong when Pakatan has to sacrifice its principles?

Pompom: Alamak! Mana mau simpan muka si boss kalau dia kalah ni? Takkan lepas ni sudah kalah, lompat lagi untuk tanding di kerusi yang lain? At least pilih lah, a native Sandakan. SAPP is destined to lose, same as Pakatan Rakyat.

1Malaysia Benar: SAPP, look at a bigger picture. All by-elections should be treated as a national issue rather than a localised issue. Yong, I hope this is your Waterloo!

CarL: Yong - the proposed chief minister of Sabah in 2013. The only problem is that there is a certain Jeffrey in the wings waiting for that post, so SAPP has to go at it alone. PKR is unaware, but all the people of Sabah is aware. Yong will never make it to the post as long as Jeffrey is there.

Wira: Is PKR going to play for the same spoil as BN by standing in a contest to draw away communal votes so that an opposition candidate can win? Don't play games with the rakyat. We need a united front and a united focus.

Please let SAPP stand for the by-election and back Yong, since SAPP's strongest leader is participating. Get an open commitment from SAPP that Pakatan would be given two out of three state seats to contest in that parliamentary constituency in the next general elections to face BN if Batu Sapi is given to SAPP.

Petestop: I think it is a brilliant strategy by both PKR and SAPP. It is better to test water now ahead of GE13, to see which approach works better for Sabah - whether a local party or an ‘import' from Semenanjung.

Sabah and Sarawak still have very strong sense of local identities which we can't ignore, given decades of being treated as backwaters by peninsular Malaysians. Should SAPP win, then Pakatan has no choice but to cooperate with SAPP in Sabah on SAPP's terms. Should PKR win, then it is a gauge that Sabahans are ready to accept a national party instead of a local one.

If both lose, and still obtain the majority total votes, it goes without saying that they have to cooperate in the upcoming GE13. If both still lose to BN in total votes, it means they got their work cut out for them.

So SAPP is throwing all their cards on the table to determine their political future. I have to say, they got guts, unlike many spineless politicians we have these days
