The federal government has allocated RM180 million to build the first ever People's Housing Project in Kelantan, comprising 1,500 units, for the benefit of the poor and those in the low-income group, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said.

galas bn candidate announcement 241010 muhyiddin poster He said the project, comprising 18 blocks of five-storey flats, would benefit about 10,000 people from various races here.

“This is a special housing programme, a clear proof of the Barisan Nasional's (BN) concern for the poor, in line with the 1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now initiative,” he said when launching the project at Taman Wangi, Gua Musang today.    

Also present were Housing and Local Government Minister Chor Chee  Heung, International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed and Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

Muhyiddin said the government provided a high amount of subsidy of between RM45,000 and RM85,000 for each unit in the project.

 Galas gets priority

The reason the first ever People's Housing Project was announced in Galas is because of the by-election said the DPM, Muhyiddin Yassin in a press conference after announcing the BN candidate for Galas.

Muhyiddin was asked why did the project only came to Galas and not to other places which needed help if BN's development plans are truly needs based.

However Muhyiddin was quick to point out that Galas is not the only area set to receive development from the federal government.

"The federal government allocated a development budget of RM7 billion to Kelantan, which is bigger than the state budget.

"We have built schools and hospitals. Our development planning includes the entir state, not only Galas," assured Muhyiddin.

No misuse of gov't machinery

Asked if the BN can be seen as misusing federal government machinery, such as using the development projects to campaign in elections, he rubbished the matter.

"Just because the project happened now doesn't mean it is being misused. Government projects are planned way before hand."

"You must differentiate between a government function and a party function, I was there for a government function and am here for the party," he said.
